Customizing courses>>Adding content
You can add an assignment, such as a term paper, to any content area of your course. Students complete the assignment outside of CourseCompass in an application, such as Microsoft Word, and then upload the completed assignment file into CourseCompass.
Once a student completes and submits an assignment, you may download assignment files to review, grade the assignment, and then return it to the student with comments.
To add an assignment to a content area:
Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.
Click Control Panel.
Under Content Areas, click the area where you want to add the assignment, for example, Assignments.
Select Assignment from the drop-down list on the right of the Add toolbar at the top of the page, then click Go.
Under Assignment Information, enter the following information:
Name – A title for the assignment. Enter a name in the box provided.
Choose Color of Name – A color for the link to the item. Click Pick to select a different color in the ColorPicker.
Points Possible – The maximum number of points students can earn for the assignment. Enter a number in the box provided.
Instructions – Instructions for completing the assignment. Enter instructions in the box provided. Then choose a text display format for the text, or accept the default format, which is Smart Text.
Under Options, set or modify these options:
Make the assignment available – Select Yes if you want students to be able to view and work on the assignment. Select No to hide the assignment.
Track number of views – Select Yes or No to indicate whether you want CourseCompass to track the number of times a student accesses the assignment. If you select Yes, a Tracking button appears next to the assignment in the content area that you can click to open the Course Statistics page and view a comprehensive report on usage.
Availability Dates – This option lets you set the assignment availability according to dates and times. Set the Display After date and time to indicate when the assignment will become available to students. You can also set the Display Until option so the assignment is only available up to a specified date and time. (See How display dates work for more information.) Be sure to select the Display check box as well as specifying display dates.
(Optional) under Assignment Files, specify a file to attach to the assignment.
Click Browse to locate and select the file you want to attach to the assignment, then click Open to enter the file path and name in the File to Attach box.
Enter a name for the file link in the Name of Link to File box. The file link appears inside the assignment when the student clicks the assignment to open it.
Tip: You can attach more than one file to the assignment. To do so, click Submit to save the assignment, then click Modify next to the assignment. The first file you attached is listed under Currently Attached Files. Attach an additional file, then click Submit to save the assignment again. If you want to remove the previously attached file, click Remove to the right of the file name under Currently Attached Files before saving the assignment.
Click Submit, then click OK.
