Assessing student work>>Creating assessments

Creating tests and surveys

To create a test, survey, or pool, you name and describe it, provide instructions, and add questions. At any time after creating a test or survey, you can add it to a content area in the course and make it available to students.

Alternatively, you can create TestGen tests outside of CourseCompass with the TestGen application, and then upload the TestGen tests to your course.

Note: Before you create any assessments, you may want to plan your assessment strategy by considering common issues and decisions.

To create an assessment:

  1. Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Click Assessment/Test Manager in the Assessment area.

Note: To upload a TestGen test, click TestGen Manager.

  1. Click Create Test at the top of the page.

Note: For TestGen tests, click Add TestGen Test in the TestGen Manager.

  1. Under Name, enter a name for the assessment.

  2. (Optional) Under Description, describe the test and select a display format for the text. When you make a test or survey available, students see the description below the link to the assessment.

  3. (Optional) Under Instructions, type the instructions that students will see when they begin work on the test.

  4. Click Submit.

  5. On the Test Canvas page, select one of the following question types from the Add drop-down list, then click GO.

Tip: Click Creation Settings next to the GO button to enable additional assessment creation options, such as specifying additional feedback, adding files and URLs to questions, and setting default point values. Note that you cannot set a default point value for all of the questions in the test—you must set the point value individually for each question.

  1. Add another question to the assessment.

  2. When you are finished adding questions to the assessment, click OK.

  3. (Optional) Make the assessment available to students.
