Assessing student work>>Modifying assessments
You can modify assessment options after you add the assessment to a content area. You can change the availability, presentation, assessment review feedback, and time limit for an assessment.
Note: To modify questions in a TestGen test, you must work in the TestGen application and then upload the edited test to CourseCompass.
To modify assessment options:
Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.
Click Control Panel.
Under Content Areas, click the link for the content area where the test or survey was added.
Click Modify next to the assessment you want to modify.
Click Modify the Test options or Modify the Survey options.
(Optional) Change the assessment's name, the color of the link students click to enter the assessment, and whether the assessment is launched in a separate browser window.
(Optional) Set or change the following options:
Note: For TestGen tests, only the Availability, Display After, and Display Until options are listed. All other TestGen options are set on a different page.
Make the link available – Select Yes if you want students to be able to view and take the assessment.
Create an announcement for this Test/Survey – Select Yes to post an announcement about this assessment in the Announcements area on the My CourseCompass page.
Allow multiple attempts (tests only) – Select this option if you want to allow students to take the test more than once. When students retake tests, their score is updated in the gradebook each time they submit the test.
Force Completion – Select this option if you want students to complete the assessment in one sitting. If you do not select this option, students can save the assessment, and complete and submit it later. However, if you set a time limit, it is a good idea to also force completion in one sitting.
Note: This option is not available for publisher-provided multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments.
Set timer – Select this option if you want students to complete the assessment in a specified amount of time. Indicate the time limit in hours and/or minutes. The time elapsed appears at the bottom-left of the window.
Note: By default, CourseCompass displays a warning to students 1 minute before the specified test time elapses. Students must click Submit to submit the assessment to the CourseCompass gradebook; the test is not automatically submitted to the gradebook.
Display After and Display Until – Use these options to set assessment availability based on dates and times. For example, you can select Yes for the availability option, but then specify a date and time after which the test is actually visible to students. In this way, you can make tests available according to a schedule. You can also set a Display Until date so the test is only available up to a specified date and time.
Password – Select this option if you want students to enter a code to gain access to the test. If you select this option, enter the password in the box provided. If the test is proctored, you may want to give the password to the proctor, who can announce it to the students as the test is about to begin.
Note: Test passwords have a 15-character limit.
(Optional) Under Test Feedback or Survey Feedback, select an option to specify how much information students should see when they review an assessment they have taken.
(Optional) Under Test Presentation, specify whether students should see all the questions at once or only one at a time.
Notes:
If you select One at a Time, select Prohibit Backtracking to prevent students from going back to earlier questions.
These options are not available for publisher-provided multiple fill-in-the-blank assessments.
(Optional) Select Randomize Questions if you want each student to see the questions in a different sequence.
Click Submit, then click OK.
