Assessing student work>>Creating and managing questions>>About question types
Rather than create your own questions when you create an assessment or modify an assessment, you can add questions from an existing pool of questions. One way to do this is to select a random block of questions to be added to the assessment. You choose the number of questions you want added and select one or more types of questions to be added. You also specify a default point value for each question.
Each time a version of the assessment is generated (that is, each time a student takes the assessment), CourseCompass randomly selects questions of the type and number you specified. In this way, each student gets a different version of the test but drawn from the same source. Similarly, if you set the assessment option to allow students to take an assessment multiple times, students get a variant of the test each time they take it.
For example, you may want to randomly select 10 of the 70 multiple-choice questions from a publisher-provided pool for Chapter 1. Even though each student is getting a random sampling of the questions, all students are being tested on the material from Chapter 1.
Notes
You can add random blocks of questions only to tests, not surveys or pools.
Rather than adding random blocks of questions, you can add specific questions from a pool or assessment.
