Creating matching questions

This procedure assumes that you are in the process of creating or modifying an assessment; you have selected Matching in the Add drop-down list on the Canvas page, and clicked GO; and you are now on the Add/Modify Matching Question page.

Notes:

To create and add a matching question to an assessment:

  1. On the Add/Modify Matching Question page, enter the question text, and select a display format for the text.

  2. (Tests only) Enter a point value for the question.

  3. (Tests and pools only) Under Question Items:

    1. Select the number of questions you want to include. CourseCompass displays a box for each question. For fewer boxes, click Remove to the right of any box you do not need.

    2. In each Question box, enter a question (possibly a word or description) that matches one of the answer items.

  1. Under Answer Items:

    1. Select the number of questions you want to include. CourseCompass displays a box for each question. The number of answers does not have to match the number of questions.

    2. In each Answer box, enter one of the answers.

Tip: Do not enter the answers in the same order you entered the questions. If you do, the questions and their correct answers will appear side by side on the assessment.

  1. Click Next.

  2. (Tests and pools only) Under Assign, select the letter of the matching answer item for each question.

  3. (Tests and pools only) Under Feedback, enter a comment to display to students for a correct response and for an incorrect response. As with the question text, you select the display format for your feedback text.

  4. Click Submit.

  5. (Optional) Add another question of the same or different type.

  6. Click OK on the Canvas page to save the assessment.
