Assessing student work>>Creating TestGen tests
To create TestGen tests, you need to install the TestGen application and download the testbank for your textbook. After you create or modify a TestGen test using the TestGen application, you upload it to your CourseCompass course.
Notes:
Only registered instructors can install the TestGen application to create tests.
For optimum performance, create TestGen tests with 40 or fewer questions.
To create a TestGen test:
Open the TestGen application and enter your password, if prompted.
Select File > New Test, if necessary, to display How Do information in the window on the right side of the screen.
Under Create New, click Web Test.
Select TestGen Plug-in (TG), then click OK.
Select File > Open.
Enter *.BOK in the File name box, then press Enter.
Locate and select the .bok file for the testbank you want to use, then click Open.
In the Testbank window on the left side of the screen, click through the outline, expanding chapters, sections, and objectives as needed to view questions in the content areas you want to include in your test.
When you find a question you want, select it and click Add Selected Item(s). Alternatively, you can drag questions into the Test window. Repeat this step as many times as necessary to add all the questions.
Tip: You can add multiple questions to your test in either of the following ways:
To randomly add questions to your test, select the testbank or sections of the testbank, click Choose Multiple at the bottom of the page, enter the number of questions to add to your test, and click Add to test. If you highlight more than one section, TestGen transfers the number of questions you specify per selection. For example, if you highlight both Chapters 1 and 2 and you enter the number 5, 10 questions are added to the test.
To add multiple versions of a question that contains variable numbers or text to your test, select the question(s), click Choose Multiple at the bottom of the page, enter the number of variations that you want to add to your test, and click Add to test.
When you have finished adding questions, click the right side of the window and select File > Save. Navigate to where you want to save the test on your computer, enter a name for the test, then click Save to save the test.
Exit from the TestGen application.
You can now upload the TestGen test to your course.
Note: By default, multiple-choice answer choices are shuffled when transferred from the testbank. In other words, the order of the answer choices that appear in the test question is different from the order of the choices that appears in the testbank, although the correct answer given in the test's answer key is still correct. If you want the answer choices for a test question to appear in the same order as in the testbank, select Tools > Preferences > Application Preferences, click the Transfer Options tab, and select Retain testbank answer order when questions are added to test.
