Surveys provide a way for you to collect feedback from students. For example, you can give your students a survey at the start of the course to find out about their interests and expectations, or you can create a survey for students to answer to evaluate the course. Surveys differ from tests in a number of ways; for example, they do not have correct answers or point values.
Surveys you have made available are listed in the gradebook. They have a checkmark, rather than a score, to indicate completion. You can view the distribution of student responses to survey questions from a gradebook view.
Here are the basic steps for creating a survey and making it available to students:
Click Survey Manager in the Assessment area of the Control Panel.
Click Add Survey to begin creating the survey.
Enter a name, a description, and instructions for your students.
Select a question type.
Enter the question text.
Provide answers where appropriate. For example, you provide answers for a multiple-choice question.
Save the survey.
Set survey-taking options to specify availability settings (when and for how long the students have access to the survey) and presentation settings (whether students see questions one at a time or all at once).
Surveys differ from tests in the following ways:
Survey questions are not assigned points or correct answers.
Survey questions and answers cannot include feedback to the students.
Surveys cannot include random blocks of questions.
Surveys are not graded.
Surveys cannot be exported from or imported to a course.
