Using the gradebook>>Creating and managing items
Each gradebook item specifies the format in which student grades for that item appear in the gradebook. For example, test results can be displayed as a numeric score, as a percentage, or as a letter grade.
CourseCompass has predefined grade display options you can assign to gradebook items. You can also define new grade display options. You can modify any grade display options you create as well as the predefined Letter option. You can also remove display options you have created.
You specify a grade display option when you add an item to the gradebook or modify an item in the gradebook.
To add or modify a grade display option:
Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.
Click Control Panel.
Click Gradebook under Assessment.
Click Gradebook Settings.
Click Manage Display Options.
To add or modify an option, follow one of these steps:
To create a new display option, click Add Display Option.
To modify an existing display option, click Modify next to that option.
Note: You cannot modify the predefined Percentage, Score, or Text options.
Enter or modify the display option name.
In the Add Symbols and Values area, enter the grading information that CourseCompass will use when automatically grading tests and when including manually entered grades in gradebook calculations. Use one row for each possible grade.
The first two entry boxes in each row specify the scoring range, in percentages, for a particular grade. Enter a percentage range. In this example, a range of 0% to 70% is entered.
In the third entry box, enter the grade that appears for scores that fall within the specified range. In this example, a score between 0% and 70% earns a grade that displays as Fail in the gradebook.
The fourth entry box specifies the percentage score CourseCompass uses when performing gradebook calculations. In this example, 69% is the value used in gradebook calculations for the Fail grade.
Enter data for as many rows as necessary to accommodate the percentage ranges you want to apply. To insert a new row above the current one, click Add next to it. To remove a row, click Remove next to the row.
Click Submit, then click OK on the receipt page.
Notes:
A range extends to but does not include the upper limit. Therefore, 69% is the last score included in the 0% to 70% range. For this reason, the lower limit of a range must be equal to the upper limit of the next-lower range. In this example, the lower limit of the passing range begins with 70%, which is the upper limit of the failing range.
Grade display options are case-sensitive, so A is not the same as a.
