Using the gradebook>>Grading student work
You must manually grade assignments in CourseCompass. You enter and modify grades for assignments from the gradebook. When students submit assignments, (exclamation mark) appears in the gradebook to indicate the assignment is not yet graded.
To enter or modify an assignment grade:
Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.
Click Control Panel.
Click Gradebook under Assessment.
Click (exclamation mark) or the grade for a particular student in the assignment's column.
The Modify Grades page displays information for the student and the assignment you selected, including the student's name, the item name, the student's grade, the total points possible, and the weight for the item.
To view and grade the assessment, click View at the far right.
The page that appears lists the assignment name, the student's name, the status (such as Completed), and the current score. If the assessment is a test, this page also lists each assignment question, the points earned relative to total points for the question, the student's response, and the correct response.
Note: The View button does not appear if the student has not begun the assignment or if you have removed the assignment from the content area where it was deployed. Removing a gradebook item in this manner removes all student attempts, even when you choose to retain the item in the gradebook.
Under Student's Work, read the student's comments and click the link to the submitted file. If the student uploaded multiple files, there will be a link for each one. If the file does not open automatically, save it to your computer and then open it.
Review the assignment, then close the file when you are finished.
Under Feedback to Student:
Enter a grade as a numeric value or in the grade display format selected for the assignment.
(Optional) Enter comments on the assignment for the student to read.
(Optional) Attach one or more files for the student to review. For example, you may have added comments directly to the student's file. Click Browse, locate the file, then click Open.
Tip: Click Add Another File to repeat the file attachment process. In this way, you can attach additional files or replace a file you mistakenly attached. When you click Add Another File, a link to the first file you attached appears on the page. Click Remove beside the file link if you want to remove it, then click Browse to attach the new file.
(Optional) Under Instructor Notes:
Enter notes on the assignment. These notes are private; only you can see and read them.
Attach one or more files that only you can view.
Click Submit, then click OK.
Repeat step 10.
The new or modified grade appears in the gradebook in the appropriate format, depending on to the grade display option you set for the item.
Notes:
You can download assignment files one at a time or in batches to your computer.
When you are finished grading assignments, you may want to delete files associated with the assignment from your course.
You can also clear an assignment attempt for individual students so they can retake it.
To enter or modify the grade without viewing the assignment, enter a grade value in the Grade column on the Modify Grades page, click Submit, then click OK. You can enter the grade as a numeric value or in the grade display format selected for that gradebook item.
You can view all the students' grades on an assignment, or you can view a specific student's grades on all gradebook items from the View Grades by Gradebook Item and View Grades by User pages. You can enter or modify grades on these pages, although you cannot view the students' actual work.
