Using the gradebook>>Grading student work

Grading other types of student work

You must manually track and grade student work associated with items you add to the gradebook—such as term papers, presentations, labs, and class participation—that are neither assessments nor assignments.

After students submit work associated with instructor-created gradebook items (for example, upload a paper to the Digital Dropbox), the grade symbol (a dash) remains unchanged until you explicitly enter a grade.

To enter or modify a grade:

  1. Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Click Gradebook under Assessment.

  4. Click the - (hyphen) for a particular student in the appropriate column.

  5. Enter a grade value in the Grade box. You can enter the grade as a numeric value or in the grade display format selected for the gradebook item.

  6. Click Submit, then click OK.

A grade now appears in the gradebook in the appropriate format, depending on the grade display option you set for the item.

Note: You can view all the students' grades on an item, or you can view a specific student's grades on all gradebook items from the View Grades by Gradebook Item and View Grades by User pages. You can enter or modify grades on these pages, although you cannot view the students' actual work.
