Using the gradebook>>Grading student work
CourseCompass automatically scores tests and enters the results in the gradebook. If the test includes essay questions, however, the score is incomplete until you manually grade the essay. In this case, (exclamation mark) appears in the gradebook to indicate an incomplete score.
To enter or modify an assessment grade:
Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.
Click Control Panel.
Click Gradebook under Assessment.
Click a grade or grade symbol for a particular student in the assessment item's column.
The Modify Grades page displays information for the student and gradebook item you selected, including the student's name, the item name, the student's grade, the total points possible, and the weight for the item.
To view and grade the assessment, click View at the far right.
The page that appears lists the assessment name, the student's name, the status (such as Completed), and the current score. If the assessment is a test, this page also lists each assessment question, the points earned relative to total points for the question, the student's response, and the correct response.
Note: The View button does not appear if the student has not begun the assessment or if you have removed the assessment from the content area where it was deployed. Removing a gradebook item in this manner removes all student attempts, even when you choose to retain the item in the gradebook.
(Optional) Enter a new value for the points earned for one or more assessment questions.
Note: If the assessment includes essay questions, read them and enter the number of points the student earned for each.
Click Submit, then click OK.
A new or modified grade now appears in the gradebook, based on the point values awarded to the student. If you entered scores for essay questions, the grade no longer appears as an exclamation point; instead, the grade appears according to the grade display option you set for the gradebook item.
Notes:
CourseCompass lets you enter a number greater than the original point value you assigned to the question. For example, you may want to give a student extra credit for getting a perfect score.
You can enter a score for a survey, although surveys are not typically graded. When a student submits a survey, a checkmark appears in the gradebook to indicate the survey has been completed and submitted. Unlike tests, you cannot view student responses to surveys because surveys are taken anonymously. Therefore, you can grade a survey only on the basis of completion.
You can also clear an assessment attempt for individual students so they can retake it.
To enter or modify the overall grade without viewing the assessment, enter a grade value in the Grade column on the Modify Grades page, click Submit, then click OK. You can enter the grade as a numeric value or in the grade display format selected for that gradebook item.
You can view all the students' grades on an item, or you can view a specific student's grades on all gradebook items from the View Grades by Gradebook Item and View Grades by User pages. You can enter or modify grades on these pages, although you cannot view the students' actual work.
