Using the gradebook

The CourseCompass gradebook posts student grades and responses associated with assessments, assignments, and surveys. It also accommodates grades for work completed outside of CourseCompass. Each course has its own gradebook.

When you add an assignment or assessment to a content area, a gradebook entry (called an item) is automatically created in the gradebook. Additionally, readiness assessments (publisher-provided with course materials and added to a content area) appear in the gradebook.

CourseCompass automatically scores tests (except for essay questions) and submits those scores to the gradebook. However, you must manually grade assignments because they include written work. You can explicitly create items for other types of student work, such as group projects and papers. These items also need to be graded manually.

Students can see their grades in their personal gradebook, which they access by Tools on the course menu, then clicking My Grades. You can modify a gradebook item to hide it from student view, if you choose.
