Adding a self-assessment survey to a content area

Before you can make a self-assessment survey available to students, you must deploy it. In other words, you must add it to a content area. Once it is deployed, you can modify the self-assessment survey options, such as making the assessment available to students, setting a time limit for taking the assessment, and specifying the level of feedback students receive when they review their self-assessment survey.

Note: Self-assessment surveys are flexible to allow you to set the number of attempts students are allowed for each survey and which attempt will be posted to the gradebook. Since self-assessment surveys are anonymous, the data you are selecting to post to the gradebook will be a timestamp indicating when the student submitted the completed survey. Scores for self-assessment surveys will never display in the Instructor gradebook. For more information on specifying number of attempts, refer to Modifying self-assessment survey options.

This procedure assumes you have already created the self-assessment survey in your course.

To add a self-assessment survey to a content area:

  1. Click the course name on the My CourseCompass page.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Under Content Areas, click the link for the content area where you want to make the self-assessment survey available, for example, Course Documents or Assignments.

  4. Navigate to the place in the content area where you want to add the survey. For example, from Course Documents, navigate to a chapter folder to add a self-assessment survey for that chapter.

  5. Select Self-Assessment Survey from the drop-down list on the far right, then click Go.

  6. Select a self-assessment survey from the Add Self-Assessment Survey list.

Note: Only self-assessment surveys that have not been deployed (added to a content area) appear in the Add self-assessment survey list. Once added to the content area, the self-assessment survey will be removed from this list.

  1. Click Submit. The Self-Assessment Survey Added page appears.

  2. Click OK. The Modify Self-Assessment Survey page appears.

  3. On the Modify Self-Assessment Survey page, select one of the following options:

Note: You can move a self-assessment survey to a different position in the item list on the page by selecting a different sequence number from the drop-down list to the left of the survey. The page automatically refreshes and repositions the self-assessment survey according to the sequence number you selected.
